Refugee Crisis

The refugee situation is in the minds of every person in the world at the moment. Millions of people have been displaced and neighbouring countries are at their capacity to feed and house them. They have no where to go, no where to rest their heads, no idea where their next meal is coming from. Men, women and a great many children with no place to call home. This is the outcome of war. Most of them had nothing to do with starting this war but they are the ones that will suffer for it.

I've been so torn about the the refugee crisis. I know in my heart that helping these people and giving them refuge is the right thing to do. I know this BUT....

But my mind is filled with fear. Yes, we could be letting in more followers of ISIS. Let's face it, we can't be so naive in our thinking to assume ISIS isn't already here. ISIS thrives on fear, it's how they maintain order in the ranks. If we let them put fear in our hearts, they will have won. Once you start living with fear you no longer have the freedom to live in peace. ISIS will have taken your freedom.

I have come to a few conclusions of my own and I'll share them with you. As far as I'm concerned we should only be accepting women (mother's with children), children, the elderly and the infirm (anyone who can no longer fight). Everyone else between the ages of 18 and 45 should be fighting for their country, for their freedom. No exceptions.

Why should North America's young men and woman go fight your war? Why should they die while you are running away? This does not make sense to me.

Lastly to the refugees that do get to come to our country, please remember, this is our home. Show a bit of gratitude and stop trying to change what we hold so dear; our customs and traditions. Our culture. We are more than willing to share but asking us to change to accommodate you is unethical. If you don't like our schools: build your own. No one would object. You fought to have our prayers removed from the school system and yet Muslim students pray throughout the day. Explain to me why our children are not allowed to pray? If you don't like our restaurants and what they serve: open your own so we can experience a taste of your culture. Our holidays are precious to us but you say they offend you. I will not apologize for what I hold in my heart. By all means feel free to celebrate your own customs and traditions. Educate people: Don't demand.

So in conclusion: I'm not all that comfortable about inviting 25,000 Muslim refugees to come and live on my doorstep but I have to go with my heart and what I know is right. These people need our help and they sure as hell didn't ask for this war. War is a messy, destructive, atrocity and if we have the capacity to help, we cannot turn our backs on other human beings. I know we'll be taking the bad with the good and there probably will be repercussions but do we let the innocent thousands suffer for the guilty few?

Very well said , I feel the same way . Your so right when you mentioned to come into Canada and change our ways . Soon our traditions our way of living in Canada will become a memory of the past if the Government keeps taking away what we've always known ei: prayers in schools etc... so not to offend anyone from other countries .
