Precious Moments in Time

A Precious Moment in Time
"There are only two days in the year
that nothing can be done.
One is called yesterday
and one is called tomorrow.
So today is the right day to
love, believe, do and mostly live."

Many of us spend our whole lives thinking of time as a commodity broken down into bits of time. We have so many minutes to get this done or so many hours to accomplish that project. We cry about our past and we worry about our future. When do we actually get to live? Our lives are actually precious moments in time. We get to use them any way we choose. So why do so many of us waste this most valuable gift.

Our yesterdays are just that, yesterday. There is nothing we can do to change what has already been done. No amount of crying or complaining is going to make a difference. The past has only one function and that is to learn from our mistakes so we can improve upon what was good. We are also destined to repeat our mistakes until we get it right.

Learning from our mistakes isn't always easy. We have a way of remembering only what we want to remember. None of us really wants to accept guilt. There comes a time when we have to have the courage to confront ourselves and admit we screwed up. Owning up to an indiscretion clears the path so you can move forward. Only then will the past remain in the past.

And our tomorrows haven't arrived and they can't be counted on. We can make all the plans we want for our future but in the blink of an eye it could be gone. There's nothing wrong with setting goals for your future as long as you remember, things can change. At some time in your life you will learn to let go of needing complete control.

Our precious moment in time is today. Today is the only day we can actually have some control over. We can get up in the morning and say thank you for another day. We can choose to be happy or bitchy, it's entirely up to us. We can spend the whole day with a loved one or we can go off by ourselves. We can decide that today is the day for a career change.  Every day that we wake up, we have the option to make this day the best day ever.

Don't let what others say and do change your outlook on today. Their negativity has nothing to do with you. Don't be afraid to walk away if you have too.

There are also times when life throws you a curve ball. Do what needs to be done. Go through it. Let the tears come and let the hurt flow. The tears will help to heal and the hurt will make you stronger. Remember though, you will come through it. It will get better.

Take this day and make it what you want. Make every second count.  Make whatever you do today, a precious moment in time.
